Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – Trailer Review

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – Trailer Review

all right hey what's up guys alien art school here we got two members John and myself James and we're going to review the new Tarantino films yeah I've seen a couple trailers scattered throughout but I really don't know much about it and I haven't really delve on it yeah I haven't really done anything like that so this is our opportunity midsummer we saw a trailer and I was like fuck we need to actually watch this yeah that was yes that was my first introduction to oh really the ninth Tarantino film I mean I had seen I had seen like the promotion kind of thing where it's saying like always Tarantino's making a new film like right for that but I didn't really like seen anything about it yeah prior to that trailer well here let's uh let's jump on into it maybe bring that down just a little bit huh just a smidge I love the old Columbia yeah yes deleted scene from inglorious bad looks just about to say that Terry God DiCaprio is gonna have so much fucking fun on this film oh yes I want to know the actor that played a Bruce lately yeah yes amazing job at Bruce Lee he hated the trip cadance just was absolutely Bruce Lee on on the point [Laughter] I'm washed out it's it is does this have to do with the Manson Family this does have to do we'll jump into that wow I didn't even get they didn't even like show anything regarding a show just turn that's all they showed in the theater well they didn't say his name or anything I was already interested in this but this is like Oh rest in peace bud yeah man he was making a comeback yeah that's a shame kind of like cowbell your Rick fucking Dalton don't you forget it ah wow that looks exciting fantastic I'll mute this Bobby scrub wow that is wonderful yeah okay what should we talk about first John there's so many things littered through ours there's omage to Tarantino himself like he oh ma jizz himself like this old western here this kind of reminds me of a hay plate that he just recently did his eighth film with film so God here let's just let's start with a beginning the wood stove yeah Oh start at the beginning okay I didn't I'll just play it well we're all the cigarettes so this must be this is either after he's washed tougher before who knows yeah they smoked like a fucking chimney bacterial ah it's like what are you doing going outside just smoking in here yeah just smoking here I like that the two of them they're like constantly together because he's the main actor yeah yeah it definitely seems like a very buddy-buddy with the unit's not me yeah yeah it's almost like a buddy cop movie yeah like it feels like it might be something along the line since we're introducing Charlie and apparently Brad Pitt seems to judging by the trailer take towards him and let's go towards him it seems like something like other than that it plays off kind of like a buddy cop kind of like the other guys with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe or nothing nice yeah a nice guy guys is um fairly related uh Mark Wahlberg yeah that time walk more Mark Wahlberg was funny yeah I mean whoever wrote the or Adam McKay it's just really good at dress I love no I agree I agree I'm really excited just to see the world of old Hollywood with like yeah branded buildings like this probably exists in old in Hollywood today but like seeing it seeing these locations and these outfits fit places yeah yes I'm really excited about this period piece know me to hell it seems like Tarantino is just doing period pieces now am I am I wrong inglorious basterds hateful eight yeah once upon a time that's the last three ain't gonna change yeah they're all they're all pieces the only ones that aren't is like Pulp Fiction Reservoir and round a lot of that's his earlier stuff so exactly yeah yeah yeah I think it's interesting that it was doing modern and as he's getting older he's going back yeah there so let's see we got ALPA Chino here we got Brad Pitt in the shadow of the limelight with yeah at the camp Rio he seems to be more charming and grounded as a human being yeah Hollywood I bet it's gonna get to Leo obviously he says you know like I've washed up or yeah has been really good see that I love that yeah that is classic Tarantino yeah yeah that looks beautiful that's so cool look at the pink it looks like Technicolor yeah I bet he got it some Technicolor shit quitting and the Technicolor trenches is here with the long shaggy hair looks like a personal home theater yeah maybe for dailies I don't know he could be a producer Al Pacino most likely is what I meant but he looks like a producer this is just great this is classic inglourious basterds I say classic one who's been around for years but I mean it's yeah he's definitely he's definitely lodging himself a fair amount yeah yeah I like this line yeah lots of killin yeah it makes me think there's gonna be lots of killing in this movie Oh something tongue-in-cheek they're showing in the trailer but it's a movie about the Manson Family of course who's gonna be gay and in action stars yeah we're gonna have fake we're gonna do a killing which we have here with and then we're gonna have fake real killing fake real killing with the Charles Manson murders and he's living next door to her it's gonna be like a backyard I think he said him that might be true he lives next to Charlie I thought he was saying he lives next door to old girl might he may I thought I thought he said I have to live next door to him but I could be a mistake and I could've misheard chair enough yeah it's it's too bad like Bruce Lee we see Bruce Lee here for a moment yeah he's probably not gonna have a major role god he looks just like it sounds just like him he doesn't have a speaking line in this trailer but he but he sounds just like him if I were to kill you the way he said my head my hands out to I'll eat their weapons yeah yeah if I were to kill you I would go to jail yeah he definitely studied like pretty probably like yeah Tarantino force this yeah black gloves and then we've got Brad Pitt here taking on Bruce Lee stunt man versus once a stunt man in our power star yeah Bruce Lee that's great I cannot wait to see that scene alone Oh me me Wow Kurt Russell I didn't catch that first for you Oh oh that's good stuff Kurt Russell was in death sentence right where he's the killer with the car yeah that back-to-back exploitation yeah yeah which which what was Robert Rodriguez but Tarantino had his hands all over that yeah yeah I feel like Rodriguez is going just veering off into like nonsensical whereas like Tarantino helped him become more grounded in the grindhouse thing I don't know I really liked death sentence more than planet Terra even though Planet Terror had deserves it's right in place but death sentence was so interesting a guy that kills people with his car and not running them over he puts them inside and then drives him around till they're just dead yeah I just think that's so fucking cool whoa who is this right here that looks like I can't think of it I'll have to look do some homework later yeah so I expect you to have look and have perfect cadence of Bruce Lee yeah I would go to jail this is great Timothy Olyphant here so he might be another actor eaten baby in the in the movie beaten some Baines was he like sneeze or cough or something I spit out his water but I don't know if it if it was a because this July no that is coming out later in the air no I can't be right dude you gotta look that up look it up right now yeah because they might have pushed it back in this yeah this is an older trailer nope delight 26th July 26 okay so here this looks like is this Charles right here in your cells yeah yeah I think so he's just like Austin Powers look at these Dutch angles in this scene alone it's a little weird it makes me feel unsettled well it's supposed to because that's like right here yeah first first one we have it's like the the the Dutch angle is completely opposite of our lines we have this one here this is like this diagonal which is breaking up the Dutch angle which looks really odd you would think you would want to play to them you know yeah but have it played to you I feel like the is intentionally going for unsettling yeah trailer itself just because this is a scene where we're introduced to Sharon Tate mm-hmm same same definition and because like you had aside from that that one's Austin Powers this one's opposite garb yeah we don't even really can't really tell us he has faced that well yeah we haven't been introduced to Manson yet so this is our first introduction to be like hey this is actually a biopic about the Manson murders but from like but pulled from a completely different perspective that's what's so brilliant it's like it's like the backyard of the Manson murders yeah yeah it wasn't part of it but I saw Wilson yeah hey Tim what are you doing over there we've got murder people don't know other people to murder people yeah later later hey Tim what are you doing over there a hold on Jake oh this must be her first movie I don't know anything about her character this might be her first movie hey dub Studio dog in the building yo dog studio dog here are you excited for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood mama bear see mama bear here like this this seen her laughing and stuff I bet this was like one of her first roles I know much about this actress that Margot Robbie is portraying I'm sure she has something to do with the Manson murders I don't know she was one of the like the big name that got a that got killed four healed yes I was murdered this is probably was that was what brought Manson murders to light I feel really sure was it okay I might be mistaken but if I recall correctly that's right that's when I heard it whatever be pregnant maybe I don't read up that much on Manson murders but I just distinctly remember Sharon Tate being a major all right that's why that that's why when she said her name it struck me like so hard like oh shit Sharon Tate yeah I like this we got some old student sets this is probably what the commune yeah yeah yeah everybody looks a little yeah they're little little out there I recognize her I can't think what movie she's in I don't know what these repair doing it could be bikers yeah bikers thought the same thing so here we have our look at Manson he looks dead in the eyes oh look how dark has I had some an sense that's correct Manson the real Manson looks completely like absolutely dead in his eyes yeah thank you they got a good actor they cast yeah actor for Charles Manson I don't look at Tarantino has a uh has an eye for detail here they're meeting each other it looks like for the first time yeah how who did he punch might have been DiCaprio but no no no we got a playboy party do you see the bunny Yeah right there there she is so we're at the Playboy Mansion this is interesting there's another one there I bet we'll get a young thank you little Hugh I says that was a soundcloud rat name so that's the guy he punched right prematurely clicking right there that's the guy he punches yeah these look like this is definitely Manson family this is all the way this is great oh so we're gonna get multiple scenes at the Bruce oh that is great yeah this Margo fighting him no hard to tell I can't tell from that side I don't think it is God that scene I want to see obviously so bad Dakota Fanning okay and then this shot that's the that's the knife there the night it happened right there Wow Wow I bet the last 15 give or take a minute that's the Manson murder murders like it's the last 15 absolutely that's what I think is gonna happen I don't think Tarantino would blatantly be like all right so the whole movies about no nothing like he's that's not a that's not Tarantino style like Manson is the backdrop yeah yeah but that's the whole point of what he wants to do is just make it to where like it's a movie about the Manson murders but not really yeah in the perspective yeah yeah yeah it's a movie about this actor trying to hold on to his to his fame and his stuntmen and then happens to fall in with the Manson's that's crazy yeah or I don't know if he I don't know if he falls in with them or if like he starts to and then like yeah like this is fucked up yeah I just have to find out I mean he's punching one of them as soon as a family member so he's probably some sort of resistance towards it yeah if they try to indoctrinate so this is Tarantino's night film and you told me yesterday over the course of what 30 years yeah something like thirty years because uh thirty years cuz I know Pulp Fiction and so on as they came out ninety six and that oh that wasn't even this first yeah that's why that's wild and what Jackie Brown came before that I think so I want to say so I Jackie Brown's the one I've seen the least yeah I don't care for Jackie Brown that much it falls by the wayside it's because when you have when you're when you're contemporary is our pulp fiction and Reservoir Dogs yeah yeah and then you would in then it would be followed by yeah so me so many other classics yeah instant class yeah fucking instinct classics I remember when I saw Django Unchained and watching people leave the theater it's like out I wonder if people will leave the theater on this I'm sure people left the theater of hateful eight I unfortunately didn't get to see it in theaters that it was seen until it was blue I still need to see it's absolutely wonderful it's just grueling to start a three-hour film yeah which is weird cuz I stopped because I've watched so many like two and a half hour films recently where I'm just like whatever but that extra half hour oh no dude it is the mental thing it's great it has an intermission so yeah you told me there's an intermission so this will have an intermission I'm just so excited to see what Tarantino is going to bring to the table because he is just like how you and I we talked about and even with Josh we talking about how like Tarantino takes all of his influences and then puts them together in an and like an amalgam II of his own style yes you can vaguely pick out things that he's done and you're like oh that's from another movie but it's not so blatant that it's a ripoff you know yeah independent they are dependent I'm really I'm really anxious to see what what types of curveballs he's gonna throw to us Oh Maj he's gonna pay he's gonna play space so much homage in this movie you can already tell to his own yeah that's great it's just oozing with that Tarantino style and then that very like of the time period of the time period you know he probably shot on Panavision you know he probably shit cuz he only shoots on film yeah yeah he's he's he's a purist yeah he is completely in case you guys didn't know this Tarantino will never shoot digital he only shoots on film and that's what he likes to shoot on forever and always so anxious to see what cameras he uses I'm wondering he'll play with ratio like Wes Anderson did with the grand Budapest hotel that would that has three different ratios oh you're telling me about that they all coincide with the four that time we go back to like knowing that yeah yeah cuz the the frame changes from white I bet I bet you I love him a lot more because I liked it but I didn't really like get it enough at the time cuz it's not in high school yeah so no it's kind of a big what's an epic about the world war two is it World War two or one I can't I can't remember the Germans are there War three probably right yeah it's from the Germans I think it's interesting he's following up his his next film once upon a time in Hollywood a play on titles see see sex is a lot like war there's blood there's crying the Germans are there but like I was saying though once upon a time in Hollywood he just did a Western film and I think it's interesting he's following it up with not a Western I could be a modern westerns yeah this could be a modern-day Western a it could be you know inglorious basterds you could you could argue that that's a Western war film you know it it just depends on how you how you you look at the perspective of the film you know how how you interpret ya how you approach yeah so what do you have to say on this John other than I mean I like the ambiguity of shots of me to go I don't know what's going on all I need to know is that Leonardo DiCaprio is having a midlife actors Christ yeah so that's he's hitting that he's hit his peak he's he doesn't want to cut he doesn't want to go down but he's starting to go down and that's the inevitable fate of an action star this here it looks like this this card that we've stopped on with the title here it looks like this is probably his prime yeah he's on some sort of like Johnny Carson show or something yeah this is this is gonna be great I cannot believe it comes out the 26 yeah fucking wild yeah I'm so psyched for that so wild field trip that's great yeah well John do you have anything else to say other than what we've just talked about do you think there will be any similarities that I mentioned do you think there's any other stuff that is true to Tarantino style that may show up in this you know for example Reservoir Dogs he gives the ending of the movie away at the beginning yes you know who the cop is who the traitor is and if you don't know you should look it up it's great Tarantino put all sorts of Easter eggs to let you know who was the cop the informant the entire movie yeah revisit that I wonder if anything will be like that is there anything else you can think of that I'm skipping the Tarantino might throw in here hmm kind of covered all most of the bases but I could definitely see like how you're saying the murders won't really take place until 15 until uh the end the end there but like I could definitely see it being one of those where he pays a lot of like subtle details regarding the murders throughout the scenes when they're just filming yeah yeah this is great I cannot wait to see yeah you know he's gonna be at a movie premiere and they're all gonna be like you did such a wonderful job and he's like no it was nothing yeah yeah I'm so like him laughs maniacally I love that okay this is something um I wanted to talk about and it's marketing for Tarantino films the 9th film this is something where you no longer need any substance as to what the film is or the title all you have to say it may be better you know name right here and I have a little I have kind of a problem with that even though and I'm not dogging on Tarantino this is not his marketing plan the studio said that night you know of course it's also marketing this is not I'm just saying throughout the Tarantino he probably wouldn't have marketing at all yeah yeah just release it in deadlines yeah it'd be like the new Tarantino Tarantino movies out what he made a new move yeah exactly just came out yesterday yeah there's no yeah there was no there was no news of the production or anything like he kept under wraps yeah that would be real Tarantino yeah this I hate this because like the movie could be shit but it will make movie because the studio wrote the 9th film no tearing but it won't be shit because it won't scream Tarantino thank you I hate that but at the same time it's going to be fucking yeah it's when maybe it's when the name when they use the name as a producer credit instead of as a director that it becomes sometimes you talk about the new Terminator trailer where Cameron is producing babies back to produce it's going to be a piece of shit people yeah you not tell how can you not fucking tell because P because most people just want that the schlocky actions they just terminator yeah I want to see all of his terminators so I watch terminator when it yeah that's what I do that's what I do oh we're getting off topic but like the you brought up a good point had Tarantino been producing this totally different Tarantino produced didn't he produce from dusk till dawn or was he just acting in it yeah I think so hmm I could be wrong I think Rodriguez directed there yeah man Tarantino helps produce I can't remember I feel like there's a film that he produced but it was not a Tarantino yeah it's like you can tell whenever somebody is just producing it they think it's good enough to have its story told and then you hand it off to some director that doesn't know how to tell that story and it's like that's what's happening in the case of Terminator I feel like that movie is going to ball yeah so bad this is not going to bomb because it's his baby every single Tarantino movie is a passion project it's his baby just like this every time so that's that's uh why it's great that uh Pulp Fiction got such critical and art and just acclaim in general yeah because he's able to make passion after passion project ever a passion project because people will fund at him and let him do his thing producers keep their hands out because they know it's Tarantino he's gonna be out get over exaggerated of course definitely fulfill the audience's desire yeah well I have nothing else on this subject I really want to watch more trailers yes I'm just gonna leave it at this I think the other trailer that we watched let's just call it the extended one from the Midsummer premiere when we went and saw it that trailer actually featured Bruce Lee the actor talking it featured a little bit more a couple more different scenes this one had more Charles man yeah that one oh yeah that one literally just had him turn around ya know was Manson at the yeah I only knew it was man C because Rachel goes oh I was like oh okay okay that makes sense I'm trying I was trying to figure out yeah I can't wait to see Brad Pitt's performance I bet he gets nominated for Best Supporting Actor only see that Leo will more than likely get nominated for Best Actor I could see Al Pacino depending on how heavy his character is in the film I could see him possibly coming up you got the last you got the last title card so either that's just a kind of like giving him that's a that's a form of honor ya know that's a yeah but I'm saying it could also be like saying also that maybe he's gonna be a little bit more hopefully hopefully and that's that's that's a mate that's that's fantastic for Al Pacino too because you had like like Kurt Russell and yak Russell some big heavy hitters looks like a stuntman driver oh yeah I could see that the bomber jacket he had on yeah oh look at these sights on this old Cadillac in the fucking bag these are great just wonderful I cannot wait to see there this is gonna be fantastic look at how he feels this shot – we've got essentially what is a cut out cut out this part of the frame and it's just being taken up and then you've got him on the other third the right third of the frame but then you've got people here in the background to create information for the yeah crossing behind him just well-composed shots guaranteed una always about the atmosphere and making sure that you are fully immersed in what you're watching yes I love this I love this Tarantino cheers to you brother hateful eight is absolutely my new favorite Tarantino film it was Reservoir Dogs was it the same for you or is Reservoir Dogs Reservoir Dogs currently my favorite just because I haven't seen hateful eight yet but you might pin it up for me so I do need to Josh said the same thing he was like Reservoir Dogs and he's like hateful eight like yeah this might take over but hateful eight was I can't honestly I can't answer like I'm I'm gonna have to see it just be for this year just for this year fact is like Reservoir Dogs is so good it is so goddamn it is so good so good
