Globe to Globe Hamlet: Actor Matthew Romain on visiting Kiev, Ukraine

and there was a real pride with which the events yes there's tragedy involved in that but they described more than one person described to me as as the events of Maidan square as there as the birth of the new Ukraine and it was really this feeling that we were on the start of something new and something good and it was a real privilege to be there around that time to speak to people in person both Ukrainian speaking Ukrainian and Russian speaking Ukraine all of whom were united in in what they were saying and it was a it was humbling as well to to be a very to be not a part of it but but there amongst it of course we were we had the honor of having both the the now president poroshenko and Vitaly Klitchko the now mayor of Kiev who was very very key in the in the struggles they were at our at our evening performance the night before the election which was streamed out throughout Ukraine and that was also great the fact that we streamed it throughout the Ukraine that it made it not just about us playing in Kiev but it but everywhere and hardly that might have been the streaming might have been why we had in just wandering around we had a day off the next day and wandering around Kiev I think about four or five on separate occasions people came up to us and said they'd seen the show and how much they loved it it's just amazing you know just I mean it's a big city but to have so many people never get that in in London and I don't know where that might have been because it was streamed but it was it yeah it seemed like a big deal to some people
